MeshMack is a product of O'Reilly Systems Corporation (“we,” “us”).
This is an operational privacy summary for App Store / Google Play review — not a substitute for a counsel-reviewed policy.

What MeshMack is
MeshMack is a hyper-local, peer-to-peer chat app. Nearby discovery and messages are designed to stay on your device and on nearby peers. We do not operate a central chat server, and we do not receive the contents of your conversations.
Data on your device
- Identity keys and username are generated and stored locally (encrypted at rest on device).
- Messages, friends, places, and blocked users live in local storage on the phone. History is ephemeral (recent window) by design.
- Precise location is used on-device for Places (geofences), the map, and nearby discovery. It is never sent to O’Reilly Systems servers. If you opt in to share your location, your exact position is sent directly (peer-to-peer, encrypted) only to the nearby peers you share with.
- Bluetooth / local network / nearby Wi‑Fi are used to find other MeshMack users and to deliver peer-to-peer chat. BLE is presence only; chat uses Wi‑Fi paths.
- Contacts are read only if you tap “Fill from my Contacts” to share your own details with someone. We do not upload address books.
What we may receive
- Support email: if you write info@oreillysystems.com, we keep that correspondence so we can help.
- Purchases: optional one-time Supporter in-app purchase is processed by Apple or Google. We store an entitlement flag on device after purchase/restore. We do not receive your card number.
- This website: standard hosting logs (IP, user agent) on Cloudflare for security and reliability. No advertising identifiers, no third-party ad networks.
What we do not do
- No centralized advertising (no AdMob-style networks).
- No sale of chat, location, or contact lists.
- No paid ranking in stranger discovery.
- No requirement to create a MeshMack cloud account to chat.
Children
MeshMack is for adults 18 and over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
